Amplifying Native Sun's Reach Across Turtle Island.

🌎 We have “Lightning in Our Eyes ... Earth in Our Hearts for Gi-maamaa-aki (Our Mother Earth) this Earth Day! 🌱

Dear Friends,

In honor of Earth Day on Wednesday, April 22, we celebrate our shared commitment to protecting our Gi-maamaa-aki (our Mother Earth) through Native Sun, a Native-led organization dedicated to clean energy and environmental justice. As Earth Day approaches, we want to take a moment to reflect on our pledge to honor our Mother Earth and the communities we serve.

At Native Sun, we believe that protecting our Mother Earth goes hand in hand with empowering the voices of Tribal Nations and rural communities to shape a sustainable future. Our mission is to ensure these communities have access to reliable, affordable, and community-controlled clean energy.

We believe everyone deserves to benefit from the resources our land, aki (earth), to giizis (sun) provides, and we work hard to turn promises into action.

This Earth Day, we focus on vital areas:

Our work is driven by a deep commitment to advocacy at the policy level, where we ensure that Native voices are central in shaping Minnesota’s energy future. We believe it’s vital that Indigenous perspectives are not an afterthought in decisions about power plants, transmission, electric-vehicle infrastructure, and clean-energy investments. In partnership with Tribal Nations, state agencies, and allies, we champion equity and energy sovereignty.

We are also dedicated to engaging directly with communities by providing education and empowerment through initiatives like Solar Cub. By teaching families and youth about how energy works, the impacts of climate change, and the promise of clean energy, we nurture a practical understanding of sustainability in our values. Additionally, our Green Jobs program equips Native and rural workers with the skills needed to thrive in the growing clean energy industry, paving the way for a more equitable and sustainable future.

As we celebrate Earth Day, we invite you to join us in this commitment to our Gi-maamaa-aki (Our Mother Earth) and communities. Your support not only elevates Native voices in policy matters but also connects families to local solutions and opens doors for sustainable jobs.

Let’s honor Gi-maamaa-aki (Mother Earth) by advancing clean energy solutions that benefit everyone. Your contributions, regardless of size, help us stay true to our mission and make a meaningful impact.

Together, we can build a future that respects our planet and uplifts our communities.

Join us with the pure spirit of Mino-Energy (good energy)—the lightning in our eyes and Mother Earth in our hearts!

EV PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS

On February 18th, Native Sun teamed up with Plug In America and the Red Lake Nation to host an enlightening webinar titled "Electric Vehicles in Everyday Life: EV Basics, Benefits, Winter Driving & Ongoing Resources for the Red Lake Nation." This engaging session delved into the core concepts of electric vehicles (EVs) and emphasized their many advantages, including cost savings and positive environmental impacts.

We also shared crucial tips for winter driving to help EV owners maintain safety and performance during colder months. Attendees left with a wealth of resources to deepen their knowledge of electric vehicles and support their journey toward cleaner transportation alternatives.

This Mother Earth Day, consider taking initiatives to ensure a healthier planet for future generations by embracing electric vehicles (EVs).

Here are 5 compelling reasons to make the switch:

  1. Help Our Environment: Join the movement towards cleaner air and reduced pollution with zero tailpipe emissions—each effort counts!

  2. Dodge High Gas Prices: Gain peace of mind as you escape the uncertainty of fluctuating fuel costs—embrace the electric journey!

  3. Choose Used EVs: Make a wise and eco-conscious choice by opting for a pre-owned electric vehicle, saving money while actively caring for our planet.

  4. Battery Life Beyond Use: Revel in the potential of electric vehicle batteries, which can be repurposed and recycled, promoting a circular economy.

  5. Less Maintenance Needed: Relish the freedom from frequent engine problems and oil changes, paving the way for a stress-free driving experience.

Let’s honor the transformative power of Electric Vehicles in building a sustainable future. United in our resolve and vision, we can create meaningful change so that future generations to come.

UPCOMING EVENTS.

'Freedom to Drive' on May 28th at Red Lake

The "Freedom to Drive" event is a dedicated community gathering for Electric Vehicles (EVs) with no gas, all spirit for all ages. This event celebrates the latest advancements in Electric Vehicle (EV) technology, showcasing various models and highlighting the benefits these vehicles can bring to tribal communities across Turtle Island.

Our event this year will be an exhilarating celebration of ongoing community initiatives, with a focus on Workforce Development to promote electric vehicle (EV) adoption and strengthen our community connections.

We are excited to introduce educational programs designed for Red Lake Tribal School and its students, as well as for surrounding communities. These initiatives will blend Anishinaabe and Dakota knowledge with cutting-edge STEM education, food sovereignty, and clean energy concepts.

Participants can look forward to engaging activities, including solar kits, mobile classrooms, storytelling, and cultural practices.
