Workforce Development
Green Pathways Workforce Initiative
The Green Pathways Workforce Initiative is designed to empower Native communities with the skills and support needed to pursue careers in renewable energy. Through culturally grounded, flexible, and accessible programming, we train Native relatives in solar installation, energy efficiency, EV charging infrastructure, and electrical pre-apprenticeship skills.
Our hybrid model blends online and in-person instruction with hands-on experience, technical certifications, and robust support systems—including stipends, transportation, childcare, and one-on-one coaching.
More than 100 relatives have already completed our programs, gaining direct pathways into union apprenticeships, green jobs, and long-term careers in the energy sector.
Our Approach
Our holistic support model sets people up for success.
We meet people where they are, offering training online with the flexibility to accommodate participants' schedules and responsibilities. Our holistic support model removes barriers and sets people up for success, especially during the critical Spring construction season.

Participants receive:
-
Workforce Readiness and Orientation through self-paced online modules
-
In-person Technical Training in solar, EVSE, energy efficiency, and emerging green technologies like geothermal and agrovoltaics
-
Apprenticeship Pathways via partnerships with union programs and technical colleges
-
Career Support Services, including mentorship, job coaching, resume-building, interview prep, OSHA, and First Aid certifications.
We also partner with second-chance employers, helping relatives reenter the workforce with real opportunities and support.
Solar Cub Education
That Starts Early
In collaboration with Red Lake Schools, we developed a culturally relevant solar education module that introduces Native youth to STEM and renewable energy careers. Our mobile classroom and solar trailer bring these experiences directly to rural communities, providing hands-on learning at schools, events, and community gatherings.
Through our Solar Cub Program, students learn to build circuits, explore green career paths, and connect clean energy to food sovereignty and Anishinaabe values. The focus is on strengthening identity, building confidence, and preparing the next generation to lead with purpose, rooted in community and connection to the land.

The Impact
Building a clean energy future.
The Green Pathways Workforce Initiative prepares Native relatives for meaningful careers in clean energy while honoring cultural values, strengthening community, and promoting sustainability.
With accessible, no-cost training and wraparound support, participants gain the skills and confidence to build a clean energy future in their own communities and on their own terms.
